The most profound, long-lasting changes are made through education. Therefore, the Council for a Beautiful Israel has made environmental education a major focus in its activities.
 
Through its permanent educational centers and mobile units serving less central locations CBI’s educational programs reach hundreds of thousands of students from all parts of the country. This includes periphery towns, non-Jewish communities and major cities.
 

In addition, CBI’s educational centers develop and operate educational programs for adult audiences, including: soldiers and officers of the Israel Defense Forces, public institutes, commercial companies, governmental offices, local municipalities and the elderly. CBI is selected once and again by the Ministry of Education for developing and implementing environmental education programs, making them a household name.

Media Campaigns
 

In many cases, Media Campaigns are the most efficient way to have a de facto influence on public matters concerning the environment. The Council for a Beautiful Israel uses this outlet to address issues in cases where the involvement and awareness of the general public is critical: consumption of plastic bags, using energy efficient light bulbs, litter-free elections and so on.
 

Competitions, Awards and Prizes
 

Since 1968, the Council for a Beautiful Israel has initiated and operated a series of unique national competitions. These competitions grant recognition to organizations that strive toward excellence in environment and aesthetics, setting new standards in various fields and sectors.
 

1,500 institutes and organizations already take part in CBI’s annual competitions. Among them are municipalities, industrial plants, IDF camps, hospitals and hotels.
 

Aside from its competitions, CBI gives out three exceptionally prestigious awards and prizes every year: The Magshim Award, the Yakir Award and the Azrieli Prize. Through these awards and prizes, CBI not only recognizes but also rewards individuals and organizations whose contribution in creating a truly beautiful Israel is ground-breaking.

Exemplary Projects
 

To this day, The Council for a Beautiful Israel has initiated and executed over 100 special projects all over the country. These projects can be separated into four categories: urban landscaping, establishing parks and gardens, restoring historical heritage sites and setting up horticultural therapy units.
 

The projects that CBI chooses to be part of are added-value projects; either they have a special contribution to the Israeli society (in addition to their environmental importance), or they are projects which set an example, creating new norms for environmental care in Israel.

  
 
 Work with the IDF
 
The Council for a Beautiful Israel ascribes great importance to instilling environmental preservation and beautification values within the ranks of the Israeli Defense Force – Israel's most prominent organization.
 

As the soldiers of today are the citizens of tomorrow, CBI sees environmental education within the armed forces as both influential and effective in introducing core values, which the soldiers will carry with them throughout their lives.
