The Council for a Beautiful Israel strives to affect Israeli citizens and organizations in becoming active partners in its efforts to nurture and preserve the environment. For this aim, the council operates a branching enterprise of competitions, through which it commends people, institutions, and organizations of remarkable activity in their sector.
CBI Sectorial Competitions
Each year, the Council for a Beautiful Israel holds eight competitions, each addressing a different sector:
• Beautiful Industry in a Beautiful Israel (for factories and industrial parks), • Beautiful Senior Citizens' Residence in a Beautiful Israel (for homes and daycare centers for seniors), • Beautiful Town in a Beautiful Israel, • Well Tended Public Shelter in a Beautiful Israel, • Beautiful Hospital in a Beautiful Israel, • Beautiful IDF Base in a Beautiful Israel, • Beautiful Hotel in a Beautiful Israel, and • Beautiful Rural Education in a Beautiful Israel (for agricultural and regional youth education institutes).
All participants in the council’s competitions are assessed by a professional, skilled judging committee, and given points according to criteria of aesthetics and sustainability. Eventually, in festive ceremonies attended by Ministers and VIP figures of the relevant sector, honorary flags and certificates are given to the participants. The number of participants in the Council for a Beautiful Israel’s competitions is increasing each year attesting to CBI's success in raising the public's awareness to environmental issues and aesthetics.
Awards
Along with sectorial competitions, the Council for a Beautiful Israel gives two exclusive awards, coming to mark exceptional contributions to environmental development and to the beautification of Israel: the Magshim Award and the Yakir Award.
The Magshim Award is given to people and institutions of remarkable activity in planning and establishing various ecological projects. The award was established in 1977 by Mrs. Aura Herzog, who was the president of the Council for a Beautiful Israel for 40 years, and is the widow of Israel’s 6th president, Mr. Haim Herzog. The award is given once a year at the residence of the president of Israel.
The Yakir Award is given to individuals from Israel and abroad, whose generous support of the Council has constituted a significant contribution to the environment and to Israel. This applies to those who showed support through contribution to ecological projects of a wide scope or specific CBI activities.
The David Azrieli Prize for Urban Planning
In the context of accelerating urban sprawling of Israel, the need for sustainable urban planning is more evident than ever. Therefore, each year the Council for a Beautiful Israel gives a 100,000 NIS prize for sustainable urban planning.
Giving this prize is possible thanks to Mr. David Azrieli, to whom the Council for a Beautiful Israel offered to co-establish this enterprise in his name. Mr. Azrieli, having sustainable urban planning as an integral part of his vision, rose to the occasion and granted his support to the establishment of this important enterprise.
